Netflow Statistics

The use of Netflow Tool is to be able to monitor the granular traffic passing through the whole network. It involves the analysis of the netflow data being exported by flow-exporters (i.e., routers) and processing the data in a flow-collector machine. The PREGINET's Netflow Implementation involves processing and capturing real-time netflow data using CFLOWD, graphing the data using FlowScan, databasing and generating the top summaries using FlowSQL and other in-house developed scripts that queries the PostgreSQL database.

Shown above is a quite blurred graph of well-known services at ASTI/ PREGINET Network. As you notice, it is a symmetrical graph. The positive side represents the outgoing traffic while the negative side represents the incoming traffic to ASTI/ PREGINET Network.

Netflow Database

The Real-time Netflow Database consists of a main database called "flowDB" which then consist of tables of flows. Each table under "flowDB" corresponds to a daily collected flows from different routers. A daily flows table can be named "flows_20020319", which means it stores the flows last March 19, 2002. Since, this database stores millions of rows of granular netflow data (i.e., by seconds), it may take a little longer in querying the database.
